Albania: a third body retrieved after the collapse of a building
GJIROKASTER, Albania – Rescue teams have retrieved Monday morning a third
body, that of a girl twelve years, killed by the collapse on Sunday of a building in Gjirokastra (southern Albania), which also injured several others , Announced the police.
The body of the girl was found near the location where, a few hours earlier, rescuers had recovered from the rubble the bodies of two women killed in the collapse of the building.
This is a woman aged about 65 and another aged about 35 years, said the police.
Sunday, rescue teams were able to identify, live, about twenty people from the rubble, police said. Those most seriously injured, including an old woman and a child, were hospitalized.
The rescue teams, assisted by reinforcements arrived from Greece, had to suspend searches at night, because of the risk of collapse of other parts of the building.
According to specialists, the building collapsed after a landslide which was caused by the construction of a new building nearby.
“Eight people, including engineers, land registry employees and the mayor of Gjirokastra, were arrested Monday in connection with this case, told AFP a spokesman for police in the town Albanian Genti Mulla .
The construction does no standard or technical conditions with building permits obtained in exchange for bribes given to corrupt officials have become a recurrent problem in Albania.
